Mitt Romney's Mormon battle plan revealed

Thanks to Hugh Hewitt, we now know the 2nd phase of Mitt Romney's plan to defuse concern over his Mormonism. Surprisingly, it invokes that Liberal mantra, "Political Correctness."  Surprisingly, some conservatives are fighting Mitt Romney's battle.

Everyone - including Mitt Romney (and the Democrats - more on that in a future post) - knows his Mormonism is going to be a problem as he seeks to fulfill Mormon prophecy in his run for President:

So Mitt Romney "announced" his intentions to run for President a year earlier than everyone else, telegraphing he was going to run for President when he didn't run for reelection as Governor of Massachusetts, and confirming
it already by stumping in Iowa. The hope was to burn out everyone on Mormonism, or at least to get the Press burned out and get the unavoidable secret underwear questions out of the way. As per the June 6, 2005 article in the Weekly Standard, titled "In 2008, Will It Be Mormon in America?" (It's not working. Did you hear Bill Handel last week talk about Mormon underwear on his show? He said, incorrectly, they have hieroglyphics on them. But those are Masonic symbols. They only look like Reformed Egyptian.)

By the way, talk show hosts, like Michael Medved and Jed Babbin, have been crowing how great it was that a Mormon was elected in Liberal Massachusetts. As if getting a "conservative" elected by Liberals was a good thing. This seems backwards to me for two reasons.

First, liberals have no values. They elect homosexuals, wet drunken drivers who let their girl friends drown, and megalomanic Vietnam vets to office. They only reject Christians, and Mormonism isn't Christian. As Liberals, they would be the first to overlook being in a cult as a handicap. I don't see how the will be a harbinger of how true Conservative Christians are going to vote - except that they'll vote opposite to Liberals. (Carl Rove, are you listening?)

Second, it may be that Mormons in general, and Mitt Romney specifically, are not as "conservative" as you are lead to believe. He could be a RINO. (Think Mayor Bloomberg in New York City.) Maybe the Liberal Massachusettans elected him for a reason? (The Conservatives at The Wall Street Journal didn't think Mitt Romney's health care plan was so great.)

Call me paranoid, but I've seen this before with Mormons: It wouldn't surprise me if Mitt Romney set up residence in Massachusetts years ago for this very purpose. (Remeber Joseph Smith's prophecy, above.) Like Hillary Clinton choosing Liberal New York to make her run for President, Mitt Romney might have chosen Liberal Massachusetts to do the same. He comes from a political family. Some have called him a political carpetbagger. I will give Mormons this: they are a very industrious bunch, often putting Christians to shame. We should run the race at least as hard as they do.

But now that the mid-term elections are over and our focus is quickly switching to the Presidential elections, the problem of Mitt Romney being in a cult are becoming troublesome. I've noticed more and more callers talking about it on the call in talk shows this week. (And it's only Tuesday!) What to do?

I know. We'll make it Politically Incorrect to say anyone is in a cult. We'll say it's a "pejorative," a mean, double ungood thing to say. Except if it's a small cult, like the Raelians or the Branch Davidians, both whom Mr. Hewitt poked fun of on his Nov 13 program. Or maybe you can call a less popular cult a cult, as the Press does with the Fundamental Mormon Polygamists  in Colorado City, AZ, lead by their prophet Warren Jeffs. (Shrewdly, the Salt Lake church uses a sound alike word, calling the FLDS a "sect.") Maybe what they really mean is that it's Politically Incorrect to say only Mormonism is a cult? I can't recall if Mr. Hewitt has ever poked fun of Tom Cruise and his Scientology. But Michael Medved has.

For a future post: Did you know there's virtually NO difference between Warren Jeffs' Fundamental LDS denomination vs. the Salt Lake City denomination, except the FLDS are truer to Mormon scripture than the liberal Salt Lake City denomination? Polygamy is still a requirement in Mormon scripture to become a god, despite the SLDS's spin otherwise.

That's the message that came through loud and clear on Mr. Hewitt's show Monday. [Did you know Mr. Hewitt had (and maybe still has) a Mormon call screener? He must have not been around Monday. A former Mormon sister of mine tried to call in with a comment a few months ago and the screener wouldn't let her speak her mind.] Anyone who would use the term cult - and there were many -  is a bigot. (Unless, again, you're poking fun of the Raelians or Branch Davidians.) That means you're automatically intolerant. By definition.

Hmmm... what did Jesus say about being "quick to judge?"

What about my many brothers and sisters who have come out of Mormonism and say it's a cult? Wouldn't they know? Like Blacks using the "n" word, couldn't they say if they were in a cult, now that they're out and can see?

While I agree with Mr. Hewitt that most Christians' definition of a cult is jaded and circular, defining a cult as anything not Christian, it's still okay to use the term "cult." Even though many Christian need to think more about their definition and use this opportunity to grow in the Lord, I think we all know what we mean when we say someone is in a cult. It involves a certain amount of mind control. And secrets. (As I've already posted on the latter. Post to come on the former.) You know it when you see it.

It's okay to use the word "cult" when you're teaching your brothers and sisters in church. It's even proper for those who are called to be Evangelists (Eph 4:11) to warn hard hearted unbelievers that they're in a cult, just as Jesus told the Pharisees they were "white washed tombs." Not as a tool to bring them out, but as a final warning as we dust off our feet, waning them they're on the road to hell. It's the Christlike, loving thing to do.

As is often sermonized, if you had the cure for cancer and knew someone dying from cancer, wouldn't you tell them about your cure? Likewise, if you knew someone trapped in a cult, wouldn't you try to warn them?

Ask any non-Mormon from Utah. Mormonism IS a cult. They have secrets.

Mitt Romney is in a cult. You don't want someone in a cult for President of the United States.
