A see of Mormon Monotony. (Pun intended.)Visit any Mormon General Conference at the Salt Lake City temple
and you'll see this same sight.
This is the BBC reporting
Well, okay, it wasn't
the BBC, but it was a Brit, from
The Economist, who writes for the London papers who said it. Close enough for government work.
There I was, listening to the DrudgeReport radio program Sunday night (September 2). The guest host,
John Batchelor, was interviewing
Adrian Wooldridge, polling him about the Europeans' view of our Presidential candidates. (You can listen to
a podcast of the interview.) Mr. Batchelor asked Mr. Wooldridge, "Mitt Romney, the richest man ever to be a major candidate for the Republican party, to my knowledge... Mitt Romney, is that money an issue in Europe? Do they talk about it?"
After essentially saying no, the next question was,
"What about the Mormons?"The "bigoted" word "cult!"
To which Mr. Wooldridge answered,
It's a very strange and complicated religion and people certainly worry about it as a sort of cult-like thing. {Ya think?]
And I must say, I was at the Iowa straw poll and, um, he doesn't comfort one in the sense that all his supporters seem to have a similar look about them. They're all very neat. They all wear the same sort of clothes.
Ahhh, it's not so much the religion, as the nature of his supporters which I found a bit ah... a bit disturbing.
Good initial observation by Mr. Wooldridge! Although his conclusion is wrong. It IS the religion. There's a reason for this, for which we can thank Hugh Hewitt.
On March 15, 2007, Mr. Hewitt was hawking his book,
"A Muslim in the White House?" on the Laura Ingraham show. Speaking to the Iowa straw poll, Mr. Hewitt let out that
... here's an interesting thing about Iowa. There are eight Mormon Stakes in Iowa, with 85 Wards. That's a LOT of Wards... [unintelligible. Something scrambled on recording. I think something about "organization."] I think he's going to do very, very well in Iowa...
[Any of you Laura365 members have the missing audio for me? Please put it in a comment.]
The sure sign of a cult
If you can't connect the dots, I'll do it for you. The reason Mr. Wooldridge noticed that Mitt Romney supporters in Iowa have a similar look to them is because most of the Mitt Romney supporters in Iowa, those working in Mitt Romney's campaign, were Mormon! Each Mormon Ward has 200 to 500 people in it. all under Mormon church leadership. In turn, the Wards report to Stake Presidents... more church leadership. All very organized.
As you can see from the photo above taken at a Mormon
General Conference—a semiannual meeting in Salt Lake City where Mormons get their marching orders—they do tend to (voluntarily) wear the same sort of clothes.
A classic characteristic of a cult. Conformity.Aside from the obvious dark suits, white shirts and thin, usually dark, ties, Mormons today are also clean shaven. (It would be interesting to know if they were all bearded when
Brigham Young was their leader.) They wear their hair short and they stand up straight. (If you look closely at the photo above, you can see one "radical" Mormon wearing a wide yellow tie. He probably won't last long.)
I'll bet, despite the picture above, they don't realize they all dress alike. In fact, I'll bet they all think they're all rugged individuals who think for, and dress, themselves.
"No, I'm not in a cult. I WANT to dress like this. I WANT to be like everyone else, above all, I WANT to dress just like
our (current) leader." But then,
does anyone who's in a cult know that they're in a cult?10th Circuit agrees
Even the 10th circuit court of appeals concurs, calling Mormonism
"monolithic." And it should know. Utah is in the 10th circuit. A lot of cases involving Mormonism end up in the COA.
I've tried to warn you about this before. Mitt Romeny has a front loaded, built in "army" of
busy worker bees at his disposal. Men, and lately women, former missionaries who are trained in the art of persuasion and making a sale and who mindlessly follow the leader. You've seen what they,
along with Mitt Romney's money, can do. So be forewarned!
But go ahead. Ignore what even Europeans see about Mitt Romney and his cult-like Mormonism. Go ahead and vote a Mormon in the White House. He will give a new meaning to the term "
Dress Code." (Those of you non-Mormons who live in Salt Lake will have to explain the joke to
NeverMo's.)
