Mormon "living prophet" dies.
State flags ORDERED at half mast.
Is this what you want for the United States?Separation of church & State?
I don't believe there should be such a thing as the "separation" of church and state in the sense that you and I and the State (which is really just a conglomerate of you and I) should be devoid of spirituality (sometimes wrongly known as "religion"). If it were possible to separate religion from politics, which it isn't, that would make us, by definition, amoral.
You often hear Legislators, when it comes to laws outlawing murder of the unborn (abortion) say, "You can't legislate morality." But this is silly. We have laws punishing other kinds of murder. (Kinda. We used to hang people. Not anymore.) Isn't that legislating morality?
Actually, we're not trying to legislate morality, per se. We are punishing immorality.
That's what the civil authorities are supposed to do. You can't force people to be good. But as with your children, you can punish them when they do wrong. God says in the Bible that's the loving thing to do. You drive folly from them.
Now, morality comes from your view of God. No God? Then, logically, you shouldn't have any morals. If no God, then murder shouldn't be illegal because, just like the animals, it's survival of the fittest. There would be no such thing as sin and murder. It's just killing. (There's a difference between killing and murder. It's okay to kill in self defense, to prevent rape, in executions. It is not okay to murder.)
Even the Apostle Paul in the Bible says "If the dead are not raised [i.e. no afterlife], 'Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.'" (
1 Corinthians 15:32)
Truly, if you're an atheist, then you should live by the law of the jungle. You should steal, copulate, do whatever feels good because this is all there is. There are no consequences for your actions.
I've talked with some atheists who are horrified I would say this (in much stronger terms). I'm glad they're horrified. It shows they have a conscience—
which God says He's given to every man. They inherently know it's wrong to steal, wrong to rape, wrong to murder even though they won't acknowledge their Creator.
But I have to say, many of them are not very good atheists. (Thankfully.)
But I understand the Founder's concern, when they wrote that
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion..." They didn't want a commingling of a church, as an organization, and the state, as an organization, which was the situation in England. That often results in a blurring of the lines. A de facto State sponsored religion. Or a religion controlled State. As in Utah with the Mormon church.
Christian Nation or Mormon one?
Now, as I said, I have no problem with spiritual people being involved in government. In fact, it would be hard, if not impossible, to find non-spiritual people being involved in government for we ALL have a spiritual component to us. That's part of what makes us human, made in the image of God. (Although some have forfeit their birthright and are pretty good at living like animals instead of humans.) Even secular humanists have their own religion, the religion of self. (As evidenced by the fact that they try to make converts.)
So it's not a question of spiritual people in government, but a question of which Spirit. Do you want to live in Dearborn or Hamtramck, Michigan, where the Muslims are taking over and
now you have to listen to the Muslim call to prayer 5 times a day? Do you want this country run by Christians? Or do you want this country to be run by Mormons, as in Utah.
A Mormon theocracy
I've been trying to warn you what a theocracy the State of Utah is. I've quoted newspapers from the Left and from the Right. Both have documented the power of the Mormon church there. Speaking of a Mormon church take over of the unfriendly major newspaper in Salt Lake,
On the Right, the Wall Street Journal, August 1, 2002
But as with so many matters in Utah, the power behind the putsch some five years in the making was the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints [a.k.a. Mormon church]. Working secretly to avoid a public backlash, the Mormon church wielded its clout to vanquish a publishing family that church leaders have long regarded as hostile to Mormons...
On the Left, The Los Angeles Times, August 4, 2001
'I'm always suspicious,' Macfarlane said of the church's influence over the new managers. 'They have a lot of power.'
And now we have this from
the Governor of Utah himself, Governor Huntsman, Jr.Mary Kaye [his wife]and I are truly mourning tonight's death of President Gordon B. Hinckley. The President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has served as a transformational religious leader and tremendous ambassador for Utah with his unprecedented outreach to all corners of the world.
The Governor has authorized the Flag of the United States of America and the Flag of the State of Utah to be lowered in honor of President Gordon B. Hinckley. The flags shall be flown at half-staff on all state-owned facilities until sunset on the day of his interment.
I thought we lowered the our nation's flag for the passing of good government leaders or valiant military / police men. Not religious men.
While researching this, I see
President Bush ordered our flags lowered when the last Catholic pope
died. That's wrong—to be consistent, he should have ordered the flag
lowered for the Mormon equivalent, or any Islamic equivalent, or any
Raelian
equivalent, etc.
Still, it's not as onerous nor as analogous as Utah. President Bush is not
Catholic and no one sees a Catholic theocracy in our government.
Maybe this is no worse than having a cross on a State seal or putting a manger scene on public property in December. But I think it crosses a line.
In any event, we're back to whose religion do you want in control?
Beware of false prophets
Governor Huntsman is welcome to his personal beliefs about Gordon B. Hinckley.
But to those of us who are Christians, Gordon B. Hinckley was a very evil man, a false prophet who lead thousands, if not millions, of people to hell and is now paying, and being paid, for his sins for all eternity.
Sorry, but that's what God says in the Bible. (Read it for yourself and see.) If you sin—and I think we're all agreed with King Solomon
that everyone sins—if you don't find the remedy for your sin, then God says you will have to pay the price yourself. In hell. Forever. (See
Matthew 7:21-23 coupled with
Matthew 25:41.)
This would be like if an Muslim Immam died and the Muslim President of the United States ordered flags lowered to half mast. To turn a Mormon phrase, "How would it make you feel?"
Life in a Mitt Romney world
Lawyers often talk of a "bright line" of demarcation in legal matters. But in Utah, the line between the Mormon church and State is very, very blurry. And that's the world in which Mitt Romney has lived and may try to foist on us.
Oh, I know he was raised in Michigan. But he lived in Utah by remote control. You can be sure his upbringing in Utah was just as cultish as it would have been had he lived in Utah. I can't document it right now, but my guess is that he was surrounded by Mormons in Michigan. You know he went to BYU, went on a mission for his church, etc. He's been a bishop for his church. In every way Mitt Romney is a true Mormon.
So what makes you think he won't be like Utah Governor Jon Hunstman and declare his religious leaders saints? Especially when they ain't.
But go ahead. Vote a Mormon in the White House. They have a prophecy,
known as the White Horse prophecy, that a Mormon will swoop in as President and save the day when our Constitution hangs by a thread. It may be Mitt Romney thinks he's fulfilling that prophecy. In which case Mitt Romney would be just as fanatical as a Wahhabi Muslim for President. Like the Muslims, the Mormons want to usher in their theocracy. Both groups think they're doing us a favor, carrying out (their) god's will, doncha' know.
