Okay, he won't really sing it. But if he believes the Book of Mormon, which, by definition, Mormons do, then his jesus was born in the royal city of Jerusalem, not in the "little town of Bethlehem" as the Bible, the song, and history says.
In the latest version of the Book of Mormon, which Joseph Smith claimed was the "
most correct book on earth," we read in Alma 7:10:
And behold, he shall be born of Mary, at Jerusalem...
Now Mormons say in their 8th
Article of Faith that they believe the Bible "as far as it is translated correctly." That's code for "we don't really believe it was translated correctly." They will tell you that the Bible was translated from Greek to Latin to German to English, and is inevitably mistranslated by the mechanics of such a transaction. This despite the clear statement in the
Preface of their own King James Bible that out of the Original Sacred Tongues, ... there should be one more exact Translation
of the holy
Scriptures into the English Tongue;
In other words, the translators of the King James Bible translated the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek directly into English!
But also in their 8th Article of Faith, Mormons say that the Book of Mormon is the Word of God. Period.
So this is ironic. To use a King James-ism, howbeit that the Bible, that corrupted book (
"Who knows that even one verse of the Bible has escaped pollution...?" ) has Jesus' birthplace correct, but the Book of Mormon, which claims to be translated correctly by the
gift and power of God, has it wrong?
Mormons will offer the same few (silly) explanations for this error - except the most obvious. (A characteristic of a mind controlling cult.) That the Book of Mormon is NOT true. That Joseph Smith made up the story and is NOT a true prophet. But you will have a hard time convincing them of that. They'll just "pray about it," get a burning in the bosom, and, like Liberals, ignore the facts.
This shows, once again, the differences between Mormonism and
Christianity. Don't blithely assume Mitt Romney shares the
same Jesus - or the same values - as you. (Hopefully that last phrase
was redundant.) Remember, he's the one who brings up "God," claiming we
Americans are all united in our belief in [the same] God.
So as you celebrate the Christmas season, singing songs like "Oh, little town of Bethlehem," remember that Mormon Mitt Romney will be singing a different tune. You don't want a Mormon for President. Mitt Romney doesn't share your beliefs or your values. Mitt Romney doesn't think the way you do. Mitt Romeny is in a cult. Don't vote for Mitt Romney.
