It's only a cult if Hugh Hewitt declares it so.
On his Monday, January 29th radio show, Hugh Hewitt reported the death of the leader of "The Soldiers of Heaven," an Islamic Shiite group operating in Iraq. He described the man as a "crazy sectarian — cult — killer." Interesting, because the Wall Street Journal was more even handed, using the word "sect" (instead of "cult") in its print Editorial, Wednesday January 31. Ironically, even the Mormon church, in its arrogance,
tells Old Media to use of the word "sect" instead of "cult" to describe the various Fundamental denominations / splinter groups of Mormonism who hold true to their peculiar scriptures.
While a Google News search shows most of the news stories (arbitrarily?) categorize — demonize? — The Soldiers of Heaven as a cult, Mr. Hewitt usually shuns the word. He usually says it's bigoted term... at least when used to describe Mormonism. But I guess it's okay if he uses it for others. He used the "C" word three times!
I still plan to post the characteristics of a cult someday, but what makes Mr. Hewitt so sure The Soldiers of Heaven are a cult? Is it because they killed people?
Kill, ergo a cult
If so, then that would confirm Mormonism is a cult. For at least one Mormon group, under the authority of Brigham Young, slaughtered a bunch of innocent pioneers.
At least 120 or more innocent men, women and children, were brutally slaughtered, at the command of Brigham Young, the then Mormon Prophet, Seer, Revelator...
It's colloquially known as the Mountain Meadows Massacre and
there's a movie coming out about it just in time to counter some of Mitt Romney's cleverly timed propaganda. (To which Mr. Hewitt is a willing accomplice.)
The link above is from
this guy's blog, MormonTruth. A former Mormon who lives in Utah, he knows more about the inside politics of Mormonism. His langauge is often coarse - he's obviously not a Christian. But that's understandable. Former Mormons are VERY cynical once they find they've been lied to and that the "One True church" isn't true. They figure if the Mormon church isn't true, then nothing is true. But that's like taking a multiple choice test, getting the wrong answer and then concluding, "Well, if answer #3 isn't right, then none of the answers are right!"
Anyway, his blog is akin to Bernard Goldberg coming to his senses and revealing the Left's Bias. Confirms all the things you suspected about Mormonism. And since he's clearly not a Christian and I am, two independent, uncorrelated sources are telling you the same thing. DON'T VOTE FOR MORMON MITT ROMNEY FOR PRESIDENT!
Liberal Democrat Bill Clinton had sex in the White House. If you elect Liberal RINO Mitt Romney for President, you will again have sects in the White House. (You heard it here first.)
