Mitt Romney - a pretty facade?

It amazes me how otherwise intelligent talk show hosts, like Michael Medved, can endorse a candidate on looks. I love the Jews, but it's just like God and Moses said (not me - God and Moses!): "They are a stiff necked people." (Ex 32:9 and Deut 9:6.) And so it is here. He hasn't learned much from his people's history.

Mr. Medved recently commented on Mitt Romney and his "picture perfect" family as a reason for electing him President. Yes, Mormons are great at looking picture perfect. It goes with their theology. (It's almost a necessity. They will go into incredible debt to buy the latest because they think material "blessings" are indicative of God's favor.) But God doesn't look at outward appearances. He looks at the heart.

When it came to selecting a new King, the LORD said to Samuel,

Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart. (1 Samuel 16:7)

So we should look at the heart if we are bold enough to select our own President.

Didn't Mr. Medved learn anything from his people's history? Doesn't he remember the travesty the good looking King Saul brought on the people? Instead of considering the heart of the matter, Mr. Medved and some of the callers I've heard are looking at mere outward appearances. [One man calling in to say Mitt Romney is a "really good looking guy" ... and I don't think he meant that in a homosexual way.]

Christians, I hope you'll not look at outward appearances but inward ones. Remember how crafty the serpent was and how Eve saw that the fruit of the tree was "pleasing to the eye?" And how the Apostle John (a real Apostle) warned us about the lust of the eyes? And how, in God's consistent irony, Jesus "had no beauty or majesty to attract us to Him, nothing in His appearance that we should desire Him."

I'm not saying you should elect the ugliest man for President. But you should remember that beauty is only skin deep and if the devil came at us looking as he truly does, few would choose to follow him. Going by looks alone (or looks primarily) is a stupid way to choose both mates and officials.

Mormonism is not Christian. Mitt Romney is not a Christian. No matter how good he looks, no matter how good he talks, don't be fooled. Even the devil himself masquerades as an angel of light. 2 Cor 11:14
