Evangelicals, make like Joseph (not Smith) and flee Mitt Romney

Hugh Hewitt said today (Nov 16) that he gave a talk to the Evangelical Theology Association in Washington D.C., telling them why they should vote for Mormon Mitt Romney. That it would be "insane and crazy (so much for bigotry) for evangelicals not to vote for Romney, because of his Mormon faith, and how that would be so destructive for religious freedom in America short term and long term." I'll discuss in a future post what effects having a Mormon for President could have on religious freedom in America. (Hint: Google for Main Street Plaza Salt Lake City. Should a church in America be able to buy a public street just because it doesn't like free speech?) For now, I have some Biblical advice for the ETA: Make like Joseph when Potiphar's wife tried to seduce him.

FLEE!

(Or, for Monty Python fans, "Run Away!" A little comic relief, since this post will be hard hitting.)

First, you need to be discerning whom you let into your meetings. Jesus warned that not everyone who says to Him, "Lord! Lord!" will enter the kingdom of heaven. Paul waned there would be wolves in sheep's clothing. Just because someone claims to be Christian doesn't make it so. CNN claims to be the most trusted name in news. It isn't. Mormonism claims to be Christian. And it isn't.

In Mr. Hewitt's case, I'm worried. He doesn't seem to understand basic Salvation. That the believer is a new creature in Christ, a.k.a. "born again." (In fact, I've never heard him use that term to describe himself. Didn't Jesus say, "Ye MUST be born again"?)

To wit, Mr. Hewitt has said on the radio that he has no problems with homosexuals who claim to be Christians. This despite the death spiral Paul paints in Romans Chapter 1, where homosexuality is the last manifestation of God's wrath on those who deny Him, it being one of the baser sins, being an obvious perversion of creation. When Christian callers press him on it, his immediate retort is, "Do you still sin?"

He doesn't get it.

Of course, as Solomon said, "... there is not a righteous man on earth who {continually} does good and who never sins." (Ecc 7:20 NAS) But there is a difference between sinners and the saved.

Paul says in Romans 6 that when we were sinners, we were free from the control of righteousness. Like alcoholics who can't help but drink, we couldn't help but sin. That was our nature. But now that we've been born again, we died to sin. Now that the triune God is living in us, we can choose not to sin. The evidence of a new life isn't marked by one who is sinless, but one who sins less. You cannot continue in homosexuality and claim to be a Christian. Don't take my word, take the Apostle John's:

"This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God."

I shouldn't have to say it, but homosexuality is not right. Even if you don't believe the God of the Bible or His word, just look! The body parts don't fit! We used to call it qu**r. Because it is. (We're not quite free to say what we want on Townhall.)

So I question whether Mr. Hewitt is truly a Christian. Clearly, if he's not, then his advice is worldly, usually evidenced by "the means justifies the ends." You should be extra discerning as you consider it.

Second, these people already knew what was right, but like Eve with Satan, are being dissuaded. When a caller asked if Mr. Hewitt got any feedback after his talk, he said that Wayne Grudem came to him and told him his talk was "thought provoking" and "will cause him to rethink some things." Bad news, professor!

I'm not smart enough to be a scholar or Con Law professor. But one thing I've learned in my walk with the Lord is that when it comes to Right and Wrong, your first impression is usually the right one. It's from the Spirit. It's when you listen to lawyers tell you that it was the Roman Catholic's fault that a homosexual murdered her because she confronted his sin that you get into trouble. Or when you listen to Bill Clinton go on and on about "did not have sexual relations with that woman," despite the Blue Dress.

Biblical history is replete with people who knew better but let themselves get talked into compromise. If you're going to be like Jesus in His wilderness tempation and discuss things with the devil, you'd better stand firm by standing on the Word of God.

Mormonism isn't Christian. Mitt Romney is selling it like it is. (He's the one who talks about God.) He's a counterfeit.

Talk about insanity... you do not want a cultist for President of the United States. You have no idea how he thinks, what motivates him,  where he gets his orders, or whom he obeys.

Well, actually, the Christian knows whom he obeys. He obeys the god of this world.
