Yet another flip flop from Mitt Romney
"If the shoe fits... "
Oh, Scoot, caught again!
Mitt Romney has done it again. This time he has flip flopped on pardons.
This from
The Daily Comet.
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, who as Massachusetts governor refused to pardon an Iraq war veteran's BB-gun conviction, on Tuesday called President Bush's commutation of Scooter Libby's prison sentence "reasonable."
The prosecutor in the case "went after somebody even when he knew no crime had been committed," Romney said. "Given that fact, isn't it reasonable for a commutation of a portion of the sentence to be made?"
As governor, Romney twice rejected a pardon for Anthony Circosta, who at age 13 was convicted of assault for shooting another boy in the arm with a BB gun - a shot that didn't break the skin. Circosta worked his way through college, joined the Army National Guard and led a platoon of 20 soldiers in Iraq's deadly Sunni triangle.
During the four years Romney was in office, 100 requests for commutations and 172 requests for pardons were filed in the state. All were denied.
In his presidential bid, Romney often proudly points out that he was the first governor in modern Massachusetts history to deny every request for a pardon or commutation during his four years in office. He says he refused pardons because he didn't want to overturn a jury.
No Check + No Balance = No Justice
The reason the Executive is allowed to pardon people is to provide one last step in our long system of Checks & Balances. A governor can't find someone guilty, but he can find someone innocent, or, if not innocent, unfairly convicted.
It's hard to believe that all of the requests for commutations and pardons presented to then Massachusetts Governor Romney were unjustified. Especially in Massachusetts.
Regardless, Mitt Romeny is pandering once again. If he REALLY feels juries should never be overturned, then he should have the courage of his convictions to say so. That President Bush's recent commutation of Scooter Libby's prison sentence was UN-reasonable.
Past actions speak louder than future words
In my previous post, I ended by suggesting you not believe what a politician tells you he will do, but that you go by what he's done. I trust you won't believe a thing Hillary Clinton tells you she will do. In the same way, don't believe what Mitt Romney says he will do. He has flip flopped too many times. Even about little things,
like his favorite book. If you can't trust him with the little things, why would you trust him with the big ones?
Mitt Romney demonstrats he has a cold heart. That he would rather not overturn a jury than show mercy. Which is consistent for someone who isn't Christian, who doesn't have God living in them. For "God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God. And God in him." (1 John 4:8)
But Mitt Romney's god is not the God of the Bible and, therefore, cannot live in him. Mitt Romney's god is just a polygamous man who lives on a planet near the star Kolob with his many wives. (Do a Google search for "
Kolob" and see.)
Don't vote for him. His history shows he would not have commutated Scooter Libby's sentence, despite what he says now. Don't put a Mormon in the White House. Don't vote for Mitt Romney. He's a flip flop. And since the shoe fits, he'll wear it.
