What's New is Old again - Hugh Hewitt's anti-Mormon rampage about Mitt Romney

Thesis: Hugh Hewitt, darling of the New Media, has morphed into The Old Media.

Hugh Hewitt delights in interviewing "Journalists" from The Old Media, showing their bias which they can't see. They're usually an arrogant bunch, taking the position that if you disagree with them then
  1. YOU are the Moron and

  2. YOU are the biased one.
For example, if you express God's "opinion" from the Bible that homosexuality is sin and that unrepentant sinners will be punished for all eternity in hell, then you are stupid for believing in a God and a "homophobe."

So it's surprising (well, not really) to hear Mr. Hewitt say that anyone who disagrees with him in his upcoming book on Mitt Romney is "anti-Mormon." (Friday, February 2) That anyone who disagrees with him is a "Mormon basher." End of discussion.

Mr. Hewitt is sounding more and more Mormon all the time. ["Don't be misled: Bad company corrupts good character. (1 Corinthians 15:33)] Why doesn't Mr. Hewitt just pray about the Book of Mormon, get his testimony, convert and be done with it? He's soooo close! Already Mr. Hewitt parrots the church's official position on John Krakauer's excellent 4 star book Under the Banner of Heaven. (Uhhh... ever hear of the Danites and blood atonement? See if you can guess which reviews on Amazon are by Mormons.) Yes, Mr. Hewitt would make a fine Mormon. He seems more concerned about those who are anti-Mormon than his friends who are anti-Christ.

So you mean there's nothing of substance in my blog that would disqualify Mitt Romney for President? Nothing worthy of discussion? How about Mitt Romney's secret temple oath? Did Mr. Hewitt document that in what he claimed is his "Investigative" book on Mitt Romney?

Mr. Hewitt's "Investigation" is rather one sided. He said on the radio he interviewed friends of Mitt Romney. But don't real Investigators interview enemies too, to get all sides? Funny how Mr. Hewitt missed the January 30th Wall Street Journal article titled How Romney Avoided Finance Rules. Biased reporting?

Nor does it seem from his book's Inside Flap that Mr. Hewitt interviewed any Christians who witness to the Mormon people, who know them at a raw level and can testify about how they really act. For example, just to get another perspective on the Mormon church, did he interview anyone who has been beat up by Mormons while sharing the Gospel? Or anyone falsely arrested by Mormon cops for exercising their First Amendment Right?

I know an evangelist who offered to present an opposing view to Mr. Hewitt's book in an effort to provide a "Fair & Balanced" presentation, along the lines of FoxNews' Hannity & Colmes.  I've seen the emails between him and Mr. Hewitt. The evangelist was somewhat naive. He thought Mr. Hewitt would welcome Christian fellowship, would want to spread the word about Mormonism to help save the lost and was interested in presenting truth. Mr. Hewitt would not, was not and had an agenda.

In his response, Mr. Hewitt seemed paranoid and didn't want to give up "control" of his book. The evangelist, who goes by Jesus' words "... the truth will set you free.", wasn't trying to wrestle anything from Mr. Hewitt.  He just wanted to help get the truth out. If you have the truth, you have nothing to fear.

But in retrospect, getting defensive seems to be how these Old Media types perceive things when someone offers to balance their propaganda. That's how Mr. Hewitt's Liberal guests act when he challenges them, and that's how he reacts when challenged about his book on Mitt Romney.

Back to the temple oath: Even (corrected, per reader email) Carol Platt Leibau, KLO (Kathyrn Jean Lopez, Nation Review Online), who substitute hosted for Mr. Hewitt during the John Roberts' confirmation hearing said that if John Roberts had sworn a secret oath of allegiance to the Catholic church, that THAT would be disqualifying for office!

Mitt Romney has sworn such an oath, yet neither Carol Platt Liebau KLO
or Mr. Hewitt will report it.

In addition to the secret oath to his church, which is defacto disqualifying for office, there are secular reasons for not wanting Mormon Mitt Romney for President. What about the Liberal mind set I've documented inherent in the Mormon religion? Or the fact that Mitt Romney thinks he, not the Jews, is really God's "Chosen People." We're concerned about Ahmadinejad's end time theology. Shouldn't we also be concerned about Mitt Romney's? Won't that affect his foreign policy with Israel and the mid-East?

Shouldn't we consider and discuss that Mitt Romney is in a mind control cult? By definition, it is expected he will take his orders from his so-called "Living Prophet." As a minimum, you have to be concerned that, when the red phone rings, it will be Salt Lake calling, whether the church says it will or not. (Yeah, like they would tell you.)

Like Bill Clinton with the Chicoms, Mitt Romney is compromised. It was phone sex with Bill Clinton. It is a temple recommend with Mitt Romney. At any time, his eternal salvation is in jeopardy, being held captive by the hierarchy in his church. If they pull his recommend - and they can pull it for whatever reason and without reason - he cannot become a god. (Nor can his wife become a godess or his children live with him forever, however that works out.) Do you want someone beholden to the Mormon church for President?

Mr. Hewitt claims to be a Christian and is an elder in his church. (When does he find the time to minister to his flock?) In Christian circles, we call it hypocrisy when a man champions a cause but commits the same error himself. Mr. Hewitt delights in the declining sales of Old Media newspapers, citing their one sided reporting. So it would be fitting if he suffered same for his one sided coverage of Mitt Romney.

I've already called for a boycott of Mr. Hewitt's book
as Mr. Hewitt calls for boycott's of various newspapers. But as I predicted back in October — and you didn't have to be prophet to see it coming — the Mormons are already buying up the first printing of his book. Don't fall for this trick! Just because Mormons buy Mr. Hewitt's book doesn't mean you should. (And just because Mormons vote for Mitt Romney, that isn't a mandate of Americans.)

Like a tenured professor, Mr. Hewitt has morphed into the Old Media. He's become arrogant. I didn't read his book "Blog," but I think he has something about "self policing" of the Blogosphere - as I'm trying to do here.

So do your duty. "Cancel your subscription" as he advises you to do with other Old Media outlets. If you want a one sided treatment of Mitt Romney, why not save your money and suckle up directly at Mitt Romney's campaign site? Mormons are fond of saying "We never provide meat when milk will do." They will be happy to oblige.
