I'm glad I'm not the lone voice on the Right who sees this.
A post from an unknown Townhall blogger who doesn't trust Mitt Romney either.
He doesn't say it, so I'll say it for him. Mitt Romney is a Liberal. (Well, he does say that Mitt Romney "comes across as a much less profligate Clinton." Is that like being a little less pregnant?)
To quote from his post, levering off the initials M.I.T.
Well, now MASS has yet another, similar sounding acronym: M.I.T.T. It
stands for Mostly Incapable of Telling the Truth. I trust him as far
as I could throw his very talented team of hairstylists.
The unknown blogger doesn't say anything about Mitt Romney's religion, but this brings up the question, what does Mormonism teach about lying? Is it, as a Christian would say, sin? Is it ALWAYS wrong to lie?
I hope to post more on this later, but it's late now. Two quick points:
1) Mormons have an unwritten law called "The Higher Law." You sometimes hear less grounded Christians argue for a similar concept, that it's okay to lie in some circumstances, if it's for a "greater good." The Catholics have even divided lying into venial and mortal sin. Funny - there's nothing about exclusions in the 10 commandments.
Anyway, the Mormon Higher Law says it's okay to lie if it's for the sake of the (Mormon) church. This link,
Lying for the Lord, should get you started and supplies documentation.
2) You have to remember who the Mormon god is. He's not at all like the Christian God. The Mormon god is nothing more than a man. They try to build him up, using many adjectives, saying he's a "glorified, resurrected, exalted"
man. But he's still just a puny little
man. ("With
"a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man's" they teach.)
This demigod lives on a planet near the star
Kolob with his many wives. His destiny is to keep his wives pregnant forever, for it is their "spirit babies" who come to inhabit the fetus here on earth (in this "Probation," they would say) to make it come alive. (But no life
until the baby kicks.)
Let's see... there are currently six BILLION spirit babies on our planet right now. That's not the cumulative sum of how many spirit babies there have been since Adam and Eve. But using the six BILLION number, how often does the Mormon god have to have sex and with how many wives (given that the gestation period in the preexistence is also 9 months as here, per Mormon Apostle Orson Pratt) to beget that many spirit babies?
As you can imagine, the Mormon god is very busy copulating, and, since he's only a man, he cannot see everything at once like the Christian God can. (When he has time to look around. That is, the Mormon god is not omniscient nor omnipresent.) You will often hear Mormons say "God can't see you." as they engage in sinful behavior. I either heard it for myself or someone relayed it to me while evangelizing to Mormons as one of them flipped us off or something similar.
The point is, there's nothing in Mitt Romney's Mormon religion that precludes him from lying if he deems it for the church. And since
he's sworn an oath to his church, and will use his political office to fulfill that oath, it is expected he will lie when "required."
Even if he lies for the wrong reason, he only has to "repent" if caught. But the odds are, his god won't catch him lying. No biggie.
It's a sad comment, but we aren't surprised when politicians lie to us. But I don't want you thinking that because Mitt Romney is Mormon, he will be more ethical than other candidates. In fact, just the opposite. You should expect Mitt Romney to lie for his church. As some have observed already.
